Top 10 Must Have Canon 80D Accessories

The Canon 80D is an amazing camera that is highly capable, but the standard kit you get with the camera is bare bones, to say the least. You have no place to store your camera for travel, no way of safely cleaning any lenses you’ve acquired, and you can’t stand still enough to capture a 24-hour time-lapse sequence without it looking like a Michael Bay movie. I understand the struggle, but luckily the solution is pretty simple, just accommodate your needs with some extra accessories. Luckily, these accessories have become so abundant with the advent of online stores like Amazon that finding low priced, high-quality accessories for your Canon 80D is as simple as looking at a list. Best Accessory Camera Bags for Canon 80D

The first item on the docket is a camera bag. After all you need a nice cozy place to store your hundreds of dollars worth of camera equipment. Preferably one you can trust and that doesn’t make you look like a dork while it does it.

1. CADeN Camera Bag Sling Backpack Camera Case

Rating

Overview

There are a couple reason why this is our number one accessory pick for the Canon 80D. First, its well designed in both form and function and comes in a four variants that let you display your own sense of style without sacrificing any functionality.

It’s double waterproof. What does that mean? It means both the outside AND the inner lining are completely waterproof. No need to panic at the site of surprise rain clouds in the middle of a photo shoot. Heck, use the thing as an umbrella. It is doubly protected after all.

It’s also light and compact. This is something you don’t see all too often with camera bags. They usually make them as if they’re trying to blow you away with numbers, “It can hold 30 lenses!!!! it weighs 400 lbs!!!” yeah, no. I just need a small bag to keep my favorite camera and a couple of extra lenses that’s easy to store and quick to unpack and luckily this bag does just that.

2. Estarer SLR/DSLR Camera Backpack

Rating

Overview

Now for those of you who don’t agree with my last statement, here is a bag that can hold three cameras, four lenses, a flash, a battery charger, and a laptop. I listed this because I know not everyone is like me, some people would prefer to be over prepared and overloaded, that underprepared and lightweight.

That’s not to say the bag is heavy. It only gets heavy once you place your camera armory and a mobile editing station all in the same bag.

This bad boy is also water proof. I honestly wouldn’t recommend you get any bag that isn’t. The cost difference between a waterproof bag and a non-waterproof one is negligible compared to the possible cost from rain, or spilling your 6th Starbucks of the day on $4000 dollars worth of equipment.

Best Accessory: Tripod for Canon 80D

3. STURDY TIGER 56” Professional Camera Tripod & Monopod

Rating

Overview

What’s nice about tripods is if you get a nice enough one you basically only need to buy it once. They don’t make a whole lot of improvements beyond what already exists. This option is lightweight, has easy to use and accurate controls to position your camera just right for every shot and it sturdier than an OX. The best part about having a nice tripod is that it unlocks a whole bunch of different photography types. Without a tripod photography is largely improvisation. Photos aren’t as frequently planned out. Of course, you can still make planned and thought out photos without a tripod. However, the added piece of equipment that lets you leave your post behind the camera and either set up things around your subject or add lighting is something to be taken advantage of.

They also work with most, if not all types of DSLR and mirrorless cameras, and if somehow you have some odd super old camera I wouldn’t be surprised if they sold an adaptor for just such an occasion.

Also make sure you have the right lenses for your Canon 80D. If you don’t know what to look for, or just want to browse some super cool lenses check out our article on the Best Canon 80D Lenses in 2019.

Best Accessory: Batteries & Chargers for Canon 80D

4. LP LP-E6 LP E6N Battery Charger Set, 2-Pack Battery&Dual Charger

Rating

Overview

Another must-have accessory is the oh so important battery pack. Sadly, we don’t have tiny fusion reactors to power our devices yet. So in the meantime, we’re stuck with lithium-ion batteries and these bad boys need to be charged. That’s why it’s always a good idea to keep one or even two extra batteries on hand when you’re out and about. That, or keep one on the charger while you’re near a power source and hot-swap your dead battery with the fresh one. That way you always have a fresh battery ready.

If you don’t already have a good set of extra batteries, it might not be a bad idea to pick up a few extra. They don’t cost much and you this way you don’t need to worry about your camera turning into a paperweight in the middle of an amazing sunset.

5. DSTE Replacement for Pro BG-E14 Vertical Battery Grip

Rating

Overview

A battery grip is a great way to extend the range of your camera. This option is low cost, and not only offers the ability to use two lithium batteries at once, but you can also slide in four AA batteries to power the device in a pinch. This way you’re never without power. When one of the lithium batteries dies power is switched to the secondary battery pack. This doesn’t interrupt camera operation and allows you to double your battery life. If you film video frequently this is a fantastic option, you can continue to get shot after shot without interrupting your process to hot swap batteries. Even if you’re not a film-maker, it still allows you to take far more pictures than normal. More than likely you’ll run out of memory card space before you run out of battery.

Best Accessory: LCD Protector for Canon 80D

6. PCTC Glass Screen Protector

Rating

Overview

Protecting the screen on your camera is a big one. The screen is one of the first things on a DSLR that start to wear down. Tiny scratches and chips from impacts can make the picture come across foggy or unclear. That’s why having a cheap replaceable glass cover for your touch screen is vital. It’s especially important if you plan to keep your camera for an extended period of time. Also, if you happen to drop your beautiful camera, the screen is far more protected and even if it takes a direct hit to the screen these screen protectors are designed to shatter and dissipate the impact. That means all you have to do is peel off this cheap layer of glass instead of sending your camera into the factory for refurbishment.

All I’m saying, short of wrapping your camera in a silicone sleeve or wrapping it in bubble wrap, this is one of the best options to protect one of the more fragile components on the Canon 80D.

Best Accessory: Padded Neck Strap for Canon 80D

7. Movo Photo NS-1 Shock-Absorbing Padded Neoprene Camera Neck Strap

Rating

Overview

It’s unavoidable, eventually, your hands will slip and you’ll lose grip on your camera. For some (like myself) this is more common, but even if you have bruce lee level reflexes its better safe than sorry. The issue is the strap that comes along with the Canon 80D just well… well it sucks. It’s uncomfortable to use and not very convenient to adjust. It makes sense, after all, Canon wants to put every last penny into making the camera as best they can while still pulling a profit. So cutting corners on things like the included strap, for instance, is how they smash as much quality into the hardware as possible.

So Movo has a nice solution for us. It’s a comfy, soft, and easy to adjust camera strap. Not a whole lot too it, but what’s there is done very well, and it’s at a low price to boot. If your avoiding using your camera strap because, “It hurts my neck” or “I never drop anything. I don’t need it” we recommend you give this product a shot. It can’t hurt. The neoprene is too soft to hurt.

Best Accessory: Cleaning Kit for Canon 80D

8. Altura Photo Professional Cleaning Kit for DSLR

Rating

Overview

While it might sound like of nitpicky at first, keeping your lenses clean is pretty pivotal in making sure your pictures come out clear. Of course, we all know dust will make your photo blurry if there’s enough of it, but i can just breath on it and rub it off with my shirt right? WRONG. Or at least it’s not the best idea if you plan to keep or resell your lens. Small particles of dust can scratch the surface of the lens and begin to distort your image permanently if not properly cleaned.

It’s just another one of those little things, that goes a long way. It’s also extremely satisfying to blow away little pieces of dust with the included air cleaner.

Best Accessory: Remote Shutter Release for Canon 80D

9. AODELAN WTR2 Camera Wireless Shutter Release Timer Remote Control

Rating

Overview

This one is a little on the extra side. Most people can do just fine with the standard time delay included in the software of their camera, but for those who want extra control of when the shot is taken while also having some extra control using the included functions that come with this particular device. It also gives you a wired or wireless option.

This goes hand in hand with the tripod previously suggested on this list. Giving you direct control of your camera from afar. If you’re out and about with friends and want to get a professional quality shot to commemorate a particular moment, having this on hand could make the difference between a picture that looks like a phone selfy and one that really takes you back to that moment. It’s also super tiny, so it’s not gonna add much bulk to your equipment load. Especially if you have one of the aforementioned camera bags to soften the more heavy parts of your photography loadout.

Best Accessory External Flash for Canon 80D

10. Neewer NW-670 TTL Flash Speedlite with LCD Display

Rating

Overview

An external flash is somewhat of an oddity to me. For one, I didn’t realize they existed until a few years after I started taking photos as a hobby. I’m glad I know about them now. Being able to add light from an angle other than straight on has significantly increased the quality of my photos. Light is a huge part of photography and one of my least favorite parts about taking photos of people outside of my home set up is my lack of box lights. This isn’t a box light, but it does a really good job of adding just the right amount of light to really bring a photo together.

In terms of improving your photos, this is probably the most important item on this list other than the tripod. It, again, opens up a multitude of options. Lighting without a wall outlet. I mean, that’s pretty awesome.
