Review

This lens promises super sharp, professional level image quality for traveling and everyday purposes. However, the Sony FE 24-70mm is a bit expensive. Though not matched in image resolution, the Tamron is close in general specification and also includes fluoride coating on outer surfaces that the Sony FE 24-70mm lacks. Actually, this lens contains no such equivalent to protect against water, dirty and fingerprints. So the Tamron may be a better option if shopping on a budget. However, if seeking supremacy of image quality, this lens is the way to go. Just accept a bit additional effort in securing its care.

Best Sony A7iii Lens for Sports & Wildlife

Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 G OSS

Rating

Pros

CONS

  • Top notch, newer telephoto model

  • Handy

  • Expensive

Specifications

The Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 contains 23 glass elements in 18 groups. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.96m-not contingent upon the method of focus or focal length. It is equipped with highly vibration compensation that helps preserve quality with challenging, erratic shots. This feature cancels the need for a tripod in most instances. There are a few components that make this model stand out from its predecessor, the f/4. The f/2.8 has about twice the magnification ratio of the f/4 at 2.5x versus 1.3. Two other differences are the reputable superiority of the f/2.8 in corner sharpness and the drastic weight difference, with the f/2.8 at 1480g and the f/4 at 840g. Although you get a lot of zoom using this lens, due to its design you dont need to worry about any chromatic aberrations or ghosting. So you can use the full focal range without worry.

Review

We entirely recommend this newer model of lens, released in 2016, for the photographer seeking the absolute best image sharpness in a Sony telephoto lens. A bit heavier and with additional specifications on the previous model. It is pretty straightforward why this lens is a perfect match for the Sony A7iii.

This type contains a regular nano structure in opposed to the irregular nano structures of conventional coatings. It provides improvements in clarity, contrast and overall quality in challenging settings.

Review

There are other Sony Macro lenses, of course, but we only recommend the best to accompany the Sony A7iii. Honestly, this is probably the best Macro lens on the market. Between its amazingly sharp optics, zero distortion, great bokeh and super efficient autofocus system, this isn’t too shocking. From a more critical view, its aperture range could extend beyond f/22, as the best macro photography happens at f/32. However most users will be more than happy with the range that it offers.

This is a great wide angle lens option and nice fit onto the Sony A7iii. It is awesome for capturing landscapes and even certain types of events. Its protective coating suit it for hassle free outdoor use. Also, its maximum aperture make it ideal for shooting in low light and taking blurred shots. Outside of potential adjustments to its electronic manual focus ring-which we believe should be directly mechanical-this lens has phenomenal function. It represents great value as it is one of the least expensive options on this list. This super small, weightless lens is one of our favorites for sure.
